Settlement in Runaway Tractor Trailer Case
Jaime Jackson was part of a litigation team that recently settled a case involving a runaway tractor trailer.
 
A tractor trailer driver had just driven by a rest stop. He pulled his tractor trailer into the breakdown lane on the interstate to use the truck’s bathroom facility in the rear cab. The tractor trailer unit was stopped on an incline. The truck driver did not set the truck’s emergency brake. The tractor trailer began to roll backwards uncontrolled, blocking the right travel lane on the interstate.
 
At the same time, our client was driving his vehicle at the speed limit in the right-hand lane with another passenger car next to their vehicle in the left lane and could not avoid colliding with the truck.

Settlement following fuel-fed fire

Jaime Jackson recently settled an automotive products liability case against a vehicle manufacturer. Our clients were the parents whose son died in a vehicle fuel-fed fire following a collision.

In this case, the vehicle exited its travel lane and left the roadway for unknown reasons. The vehicle collided with a drainage ditch which caused it to flip over and catch fire. Tragically, the driver could not get out of the vehicle and died in the fire.

Settlement for seatback collapse which caused spinal injury

Our client, who was driving his car and wearing his seatbelt, suffered a severe thoracic spinal cord injury when his vehicle was rear ended. Rather than his seat protecting him and restraining his torso in place, he was propelled backwards into the rear seat of his car because the driver’s seatback had collapsed, and the head restraint became dislodged. This caused him to be projected into the rear seat, resulting in his injuries. Jaime Jackson Law successfully sued the vehicle manufacturer for the defective design of the driver’s seating system resulting in a seatback collapse spinal injury.
