In this short article, Jaime reflects on the choices we make in life from his book The Sh!t I Wished I Learned in College.
It’s what you make of it.
It is what you say it is. Attitude. It is what you make of it. It is all how you choose to see it. You can choose to be sad. You can choose to be frustrated. You can choose to be angry. You can choose to accept what happens. You can choose to see the good. You may have to look a little harder sometimes but look for it because it is there. You decide. You choose. Your actions, how you choose to see the world, it is all up to you. Is there good or bad? Depends on how we choose to see things. We can choose to see there is no good or bad, only truth. Only what is and what will be. You oversee your emotions. You may have impulses and initial reactions, but then pause, stop, think, look, listen.
Own it.
Find the “positive.” Find the inspiration. Roll with it. What you think is a hurdle, and it usually does turn out this way, may be a huge springboard rather than an obstacle. We always have a choice. We get to choose how we “feel.” Whatever the “problem” is, we own it. It is ours to deal with whether we created it or someone else did. We can see it as an opportunity to gain experience, work, or just clean it up and check it off the list. Sulking, getting angry, blaming others is not going to help. It is our problem to solve, so solve it and do it with gratitude and a positive mindset. It will pass. It will resolve. You will be better for it and you will learn something along the way.
Be grateful.
Accept and be grateful for whatever happens and comes our way. Willingly and gratefully accept what is outside our control. Let the chips fall where they may.
“The two things in your life you are in total control of are your attitude and your effort.” Billy Cox
