The law firms of Jaime Jackson Law and Walkup Melodia recently represented a client against a vehicle manufacturer for the failure of the vehicle’s crash avoidance technology systems to prevent the vehicle from crashing into our client.
Our client was loading groceries into the trunk of her car in a parking lot. Another vehicle stopped behind our client waiting for her to finish putting groceries in her trunk so she could take the parking space. The vehicle suddenly leapt forward at high speed, pinning our client against the back of her car and crushing her legs, both of which were later amputated. None of the vehicle’s crash avoidance safety systems, designed to detect obstacles in the vehicle’s path and de-throttle the engine and brake the vehicle, activated despite the presence of our client and her vehicle directly in its driving path.
Profits before safety
All too often, in their pursuit of profits and industry dominance, vehicle manufacturers test their vehicles and their “safety” technologies on the American public to gather data. When the technology goes awry, these vehicle manufacturers must take responsibility for the damage caused to the lives of people like our client, whose life is forever changed.
