Jaime Jackson Law recently helped settle a lawsuit with the law firm of Langdon & Emison following a passenger van crash in Jamaica. A group of women had traveled to Jamaica for a weekend birthday celebration. Sadly, celebration turned to tragedy following a passenger van crash when the driver of a van transporting the group lost control and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle. One passenger was killed, one passenger was paralyzed, and three passengers were severely injured.
Birthday celebration turned to tragedy
Our clients had booked a celebratory weekend with a destination management company which offered airport transfers, excursions, and other experiences at various popular tourist destinations in the Caribbean. Shortly after arriving in Jamaica, the group met their vacation representative about excursion options. They decided to go on a rafting trip, which included transportation to and from the rafting excursion.
As the group was returning to the resort after rafting, the driver of the van lost control and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.
The group of women suffered horrific injuries, including paraplegia. They all required extensive medical treatment and will require ongoing support, including for the psychological trauma they suffered.
Destination management company liability
Our clients sued the destination management company and their affiliated companies who advertised, arranged, and booked the trip, including the rafting excursion. The destination management company was the group’s sole point of contact for their payment and transportation. Our clients also argued that the destination management company and their affiliated companies were also liable for the driver of the van.
Jaime Jackson Law, together with Langdon & Emison, were able to settle this lawsuit that will allow for the women to pay for their medical costs and ongoing future medical and life care needs.
