Many new cars today come with safety features as standard. However, there are also many cars where additional safety features are optional add-ons at the buyer’s expense, or the manufacturer chooses not to include the crash avoidance technology as standard equipment. In this case our client’s vehicle, which was not equipped with a lane keeping system left its lane of travel, entered the breakdown lane, and exited the roadway where it then contacted a culvert. This caused the vehicle to roll over and catch fire. Our client died in the fire.

Jaime Jackson recently settled an automotive products liability case against a vehicle manufacturer. Our clients were the parents whose son died in a vehicle fuel-fed fire following a collision.

In this case, the vehicle exited its travel lane and left the roadway for unknown reasons. The vehicle collided with a drainage ditch which caused it to flip over and catch fire. Tragically, the driver could not get out of the vehicle and died in the fire.

Jaime Jackson Law recently settled a case against a heavy truck manufacturer for choosing not to equip its truck with a collision mitigation system. Our client was stopped, with his turn signal activated, to make a left-hand turn. Their vehicle was struck from behind by a truck causing catastrophic spinal cord injuries. This is a common scenario we all fear; being stopped at a red light, stopped or slowing to make a turn, and we look in our review mirror and pray that tractor trailer coming up fast behind is going to stop. In this case, the truck driver was distracted, the truck did not stop. The result was a horrific collision.
